Couple of questions after the jump if oppo can spare the time.

First, I think the cheap tire shop where I got my summer tires put back on, didn’t balance them. Ever since, the car has had a slight vibration above 80mph. I know, don’t do it. But, its disconcerting. They only charged me $60 for all 4 tires so it wouldn’t surprise me and I can’t think of anything else that could have caused it.

Second, would squeaky brakes be covered under warranty? I have to go in for an oil change soon and want to bring it up. It happens during initial application every time, for a few weeks now. Its annoying.

Doesn’t hurt to ask if they were balanced. And if they weren’t, at least you know what you need to do. As for the squeaky brakes, they might throw some lube on the pads but I would expect to pay for anything more than that. They only squeak on initial application or they squeak throughout say, a 30 min drive?

It’s called “rite of passage”. It’s a ritual not a right as in the right to vote.

Should have been more clear. They squeak throughout my 50 minute drive home. When the pad/rotor initially touch, first 10 feet or so of braking.

But yea, wouldn’t hurt to call and ask that shop about the tires.

Could be pad compound, I’m thinking they might refer you to the Porsche video ...

Honestly, even if they were balanced and have a vibration, I’d personally go get them balanced again somewhere else. If the problem persists, then it’s obviously not the tires/wheels.

On a more helpful note, The 2016-2017 ND Miatas have a Factory TSB for overly squeaky brakes. I don’t have the number in front of me, but I can look it up later. The service department shouldn’t have an issue finding it either. Depending on how bad the issue is, they’ll either resurface the rotors/pads or replace them with entirely new ones. For our ND, we got new pads and rotors even though our squeaking was intermittent.

Also, if it hasn’t been done yet, have the service department check your convertible top! You might get a new one of the updated design, as the original design has a tendency to tear the top straps.

This is why oppo is good.

I had no idea about the brakes or top. Definitely going to bring it up when I go in. It squeaks everyone now so if theres a TSB they should fix it. My top seems fine but it can’t hurt to bring it up.

Thank you!

Definitely get them rebalanced. I’ve had good luck at discount tire. I’ve bought a crapload of tires from them and they have rebalanced tires that they didn’t originally mount. My winters that came with my S4, and they do puncture repairs for free too. They may have balanced them, but if you did some hard stops you could have had the tire rotate around the wheel a bit to run them out of balance.

Simplest solution to the problem is probably the answer.

Tires should have enough tread on them to last me 10k miles until it snows again so I should just do it now.
